After resounding positive feedback, the Mile High Agile 2018 Conference will host our second year of Open Space! We anticipate you will continue to learn valuable information this year and create new, engaging relationships to last a lifetime. This format helps you, the attendee, drive the agenda you want to discuss! As always, Open Space is included in the cost of your registration.
What is Open Space?
Open Space Technology (OST) is a participant-driven conference session. The process allows everyone to participate in sessions with others whom you may not normally have a chance to talk with. As an attendee, you will have an opportunity to propose and attend sessions on the topics that are most important to you!
Do you have specific topics that you would like to discuss? Didn’t get what you wanted out of the morning sessions, or want to share your thoughts and discuss what you learned with your fellow agilists? We have the format for you!
Open Space is a powerful tool that allows large groups to engage in specific discussions or topics that interest them. Building on the cornerstone of self-organization, Open Space is grounded by four guiding principles and one law.
The four principles
- Whoever come are the right people.
- Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
- Whenever it starts is the right time.
- When it’s over, it’s over.
The law of two feet
“If, during the course of the gathering, any person finds themselves in a situation where they are neither learning nor contributing, they must use their feet and go to some more productive place.” – Harrison Owen
How does Open Space work?
The Open Space event opens with a Marketplace and is your opportunity to share your topic with all of the other conference attendees. The marketplace is very simple to navigate – you write your topic on a sticky note, announce it to the room, and then place it on the scheduling board in an open slot. This process helps everyone an opportunity to hear and see if your topic has any resonance for them.
Once the schedule is published, attendees will navigate to the session they are interested in and each session will be 40 minutes long. There will be large poster board and markers in each Open Space room to capture any ideas, notes, etc.
Please note – we will not be accepting any prepared presentations for open space and projector, screens, laptops will not be permitted. If you have something prepared, please consider submitting it as a session topic.
New this year!
Instead of having Open Space on one day, as we did last year, we will have Open Space in the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday. This is to allow for you to build on what they learned from the morning’s session, if desired, or introduce new topics to share.
